I was recently laid off, and as much I don’t want to, I have to cash out my 401k. When I looked at my last paycheck, there was a little under $500 deducted from my pay YTD. When I called the company that has my 401k, they said that only about $220 was contributed. Shouldn’t the deductions from my pacheck match the contributions made? If so, what is my next step when I call my former employer? Do I have a leg to stand on, or am I just wasting my time and energy, and say goodbye to whatever wasn’t contributed to my 401k account. The company I worked for did not contribute at all to the account.
I heard that some tax deductions will be waived for certain reasons. I was just laid off and been having trouble receiving my last checks, vacation pay, etc. No unemployment yet, so I need something to hold me over until I get the rest of my checks. Will that be enough reason to waive the fees?
